Sketches 12/06-01/07

A cartoon-style study of my 3 girls, pencil and ink. I used this to prep for the holiday card I created for Dec. 2006. It's tricky developing a style that's simple and cartoony, yet capturing their looks and personality almost exactly. I'm pretty happy with the results.

Drew this on the 31st of December. I love drawing Wonder Woman. So this is the whole package: your modern Diana in the center, Golden-age WW, Wonder Girl and Donna Troy.

My first sketch of the year, character studies of the main members of the Batman Family. They're fun to draw, too.

I know, very DC-centric again. But stay tuned. The obligatory cheesecake, for-mature-audiences-only, stuff coming up.

Red

A few days ago, I found out that an acquaintance of mine passed away. His name was Red. He was someone I knew during my tenure at UCSF. His employment matched his personality like a glove as he was a member of the Arts & Events department. In other words, he worked for the place that handled "fun" in one of the nations most prominent medical schools. His outgoing personality was infectuous. I have spent time with him in few social settings as well as one or two up-close and personal conversations. But in what few moments I shared with Red, I enjoyed. This news came as a shock, because Red isn't someone you would perceive is old enough to die of natural causes (he passed on due to complications from pneumonia).

I recently attended a memorial serivice in his honor. It was a reception of many, both from within his department and from outside, all of which called him family. His great personality is matched with his generosity as I found out, as he gave himself freely to individuals that needed him, or just needed laughter. I reveled in his memory as I listened to those that were close to him speak about his life. The Red I knew was a good man. And that day, I found out he was apparently more.

I wasn't close to Red. But you didn't have to be. Red was my friend. And he was a good human being who had more heart than many that walk the earth. And because I wasn't as close, I am robbed of the opportunity to get to know him better than I should have.

Good people shouldn't just disappear from our lives. I will miss him.

Version Three Point OH!

To match with my complexity (or indecisiveness, pick one), my sites gone through another overhaul. But then you know that by now since that's how you got here. So this blog is redundant. But let me know what you think anyway.

On a whole nother unrelated subject, is it really July? Holy crap!

Well here's another drink to Imelda, Mary, Jomer, Con, and any other July birthday people I missed.

Bye, for now!

TJs World, REDUX

Or let's call this TJ's World v.2. I gotta say, setting this up is such a pain in the ass, you may see v.3 sometime soon. But let's see how I do with this one.

But I digress. Welcome to TJ's Worlds, my little blog playground. This is basically where I rant about stuff, much like I did over at the other "space", but more since this is my site! No holds barred, kinda. You get to read about everything in my universe, be it family life to world events and everything in between. From the trivial to the tragic. I will even review the stuff that keep me amused, from comics to movies to guilty pleasures du jour. i will even talk about you.

So get comfy in that swivel chair and enjoy your ride. And if you have kids reading this, well, don't. I tend to curse and talk about the nasty often.

WELCOME TO MY WORLD!

I just had the best week (almost) ever!

I'm still trying to wrap my brain around this. Let's see if you follow:

Sometime last week, i acquired my first iPod. Not just any iPod. Video, 30 gigs, slim, pristine, brand new. Here's the kicker. IT WAS FREE! And totally unexpected! It frickin' rocks! And now that i have it, it's totally worth the 300 bucks i woulda paid! It's such the pinaccle of personal, portable technology! Hundreds of songs plus hundreds of photos plus my address book, calendar and podcasts and I've barely scratched the surface! Apple, i salute you.

To top of that week, my friend Mae treated me to my third New Edition concert. Yes, New Edition. And that concert reminded me why I'm such a fan. They put on the greatest show. Not to mention the Paramout Theater in Oakland is gorgeous, very opera classy, and our seats, while not floor seats, were awesome! I swear, no group can bring it with both choreography and vocals with NO breaks. Very engaging and I strongly recommend next time they're in town.

Not to mention, Tahjz, my almost-1-year-old son, is learning new stuff every day. To my dismay, he wants to grow up so fast. C'est la vie.

Well. Enjoy YOUR week.
