Last Tuesday, I started a new precedent for myself in my quest to better myself creatively: nude figure drawing. I found a place in the city, and I gotta give this guy props, he set up his studio loft for life drawing workshops. It's 10 bucks a pop, and he's got coffee, wine and sodas. He lets you use some of his supplies if you are lacking any. He uses a female model who does a wide range of dynamic and challenging poses. The session consists of 10 1 minute poses, 4 5 minute poses, 3 10 minute poses and 3 20's.
It was such a challenge at first since I haven't done this since college, but I gotta say, I was creatively recharged and refreshed. It was a lot of fun.
Here's some of the stuff I did. Some things are cut off because oversized drawing paper can't really fit the surface of your typical scanner. But check these out:

If you guys feel your creative juices flowing, feel free to join me. It's every Tuesday, from 7-10pm in the city (I'll let you know the exact address, e-mail me). And I'm looking for other sessions like these on weekends in particular, so let me know if you know of any.
Definitely a great start to my year.

In my quest to become a better artist, I am aggressively venturing into the realm of digital mixed media. The result are these two pieces. For starters.
Photoshop coloring over line art
Illustrator vector art, "Scanner Darkly" style
Your thoughts?
More to come.
Welcome to the Zoo!
I borrowed some animal books from a coworker today and got inspired. It was great practice to sketch different, non-super-species. So here they are:

Welcome to TJ's Carshow!
No, I haven't picked up a car fetish. Just thought I would venture more outside my norm and find out what my range is artistically. Here are a couple of rides I sketched out. I actually enjoy drawing cars (not as much as my friend G, who's magnificent auto artwork and more can be found at www.pilareart.com) and I'll probably do more. Check 'em out:

And of course, what would a car show be without models?

WARNING: FOLLOWING ARTWORK IS INTENDED FOR MATURE AUDIENCES.
Here is a fabric study sketch. How's the blanket look? Did I render it correctly? Hello?

Here are some ink illustrations I did last year. Mostly celebrity portrait stuff. I'm sure you won't have any problems identifying them.

In an unprecidented stroke of inspiration, I produced these four pieces over the weekend. I don't usually delve into the digital realm to create (not that I haven't), but to achieve the halftone-retro effect that's always fascinated me, Photoshop filters is the way to go. And I'm pretty pleased how it turned out over the ink drawings I made of my children. So more to come, until new styles and techniques inspire me. Oh, and let me know what you think. I can take it.
